Week 11 - August 31, 2025

Hello, everyone! Another week down in Miri and last full week of the transfer as well which is so crazy. Remember just getting here and getting started and having no idea what was going on, and I've seen so so much growth in all aspects of my life over the month and a half. Transfer news is this Tuesday for us, and I expect to stay here in Miri but get a new trainer. It will be sad to say goodbye to Elder Randall for sure. We don't have much in common but we we're still able to come together and get work done and my time with Elder Randall has taught me a lot about myself and taught me how to work with others I wouldn't usually think to talk to or befriend back home, so it's been great.

Saturday- Not a crazy amount happened this week other than us getting robbed, someone hopped our fence and stole our spare bike tires off one of our bikes and then they broke our water system, so we've been taking bucket showers the past couple nights, as well as my bike breaking down, so we had to walk the bike home. (This all happened on only Saturday night😂) We had two member meals that day as well and rushing, too, and from appointments and got home at like 10 that night. A lot of firsts that day and the finding was really good that day. Talked to a Filipino woman who was super super kind, and she spoke English! Wish my guy Elder Caldwell was there to spit some tagalong and snag the number but just getting to connect with these people will always be worth it regardless of if they reject or accept our message. Our job as missionaries is to inform not convince, it's the Holy Ghost's job to convince. I always tell myself as I find or teach lessons. This is the Lord's work, and on Saturday night I needed that humbling of getting our water taken away and robbed to remind myself that NO MAN can stop or halt this work where it is. Not even our apostles expect us 18, 19-year-olds to do it ourselves, because it's not on us, it's the Lord's and he will and has been letting it roll forth. I'm grateful to know that.

Spiritual thought- already shared one I guess, got a little carried away ngl, but one thing I want to share about are three Malay words because I love this language so much.

(tahu)- means to know information or an idea
Menga(tahu)i- also means to know

K(enal) means to know a specific person or meng(enal)i means to recognize someone

We had a conversation about these two words once in the MTC and once at Zone Conference, but basically we have to actually "kenal" Jesus Christ and recognize him as our Savior and Redeemer and not just "tahu" him and know that he was a man and actually lived and look at him as some sort of good prophet with stories, no can't be doing that, we have to actually see him how he wants us to see him. Because he died for us, bled from every pore for us, and was resurrected again so that we too can be resurrected.

The other word is-
Korban tebusan
(Literally means ransom sacrifice)
Now I'm not gonna tell you exactly what korban tebusan means in English and DONT GO TO TRANSLATE, (not even translate knows what korban tebusan means in English, what a shame) actually ponder what and how Jesus paid the ransom for us and sacrificed himself for us and that's what it will mean. If you're a member of the church maybe it'll be easy for you to instantly recognize that it means atonement in English, when I say all of that. But if you don't already know, then I testify of the redeeming power and grace and love that comes from the atonement and the fact that we are ALL literal children of our God in heaven. If you come to accept that I promise you will feel greater peace and happiness in your life,

Dalam nama Yesus Kristus, Amin

-Elder Barlow

I invite you all to read this talk as well from an apostle of the Lord.
